The New Brunswick Alumni Chapter has dedicated itself to a goal, that goal is saving young Black males. It is our singular most important issue. The chapter demonstrated its efforts towards this initiative with a dynamic event. On Friday, April 30, 2010, the chapter hosted the 2nd Annual Boys to Men – African-American/Latino Males Empowerment Conference in conjunction with Raritan Valley Community College. The chapter under the guidance of Guide Right Chairman, C. Alex Gray, hosted over 210 African-American/Latino high school males for the day. The conference is planned and run entirely by the men of New Brunswick Alumni. Workshops included a career panel, how to deal with law enforcement presented by the Northeastern Province Polemarch Paul Huggins and strategies for academic and life success. In addition to the members of the chapter, the young men of the NBA Kappa Leadership League also participate in the conference as hosts as well as participants. It is our goal to continue motivating this group of young men to pursue higher education as a means of improving our communities. It is our goal to see other chapter form this type of partnership with their local school and establish similar conferences. The more young men we can reach the greater the impact that we can have.
